How to transcribe Instagram Reels and TikToks, one or fifty at a time

Instagram, TikTok and Facebook can show captions on a video, but none of them gives you the words as text you can copy, search or export. Here is how to get transcripts in bulk.

What the platforms give you

All three can show auto-generated captions over a video when the creator allows it. That helps you watch without sound. It does not give you a transcript: there is nothing to copy, nothing to search across videos, and nothing to put in a document.

Transcribe with Sortflare

  1. Add Sortflare to Chrome and sign in with your email.
  2. Open a profile, a Reels tab or a single video on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook.
  3. Press Alt+S, click Sort, select one video or as many as you want, and click Transcribe.
  4. Read the text in the panel, or export the list: each transcript lands in its own column next to the views, likes and caption.

A single video's own URL works too. You do not have to go back to the grid.

Why transcribe in bulk

One transcript is a curiosity. Thirty, from the posts that did best in your niche, are a swipe file. Sort an account by outlier score, transcribe the top ten, and the first lines of each sit one under the other, where you can see which hooks keep working. The guide to finding viral Reels covers the rest of that routine.

What leaves your computer

Only the clip you ask to transcribe, and only when you click. It goes to our server, which passes it to a speech-to-text provider and returns the text. Nothing is kept afterwards and nothing is used to train models. Sorting, exporting and downloading never leave your browser.

Plans and limits

Transcription is part of Pro, $29 once, with 500 minutes a month for life and transcripts included in every export. On the free plan, signing in gives you one Pro scan a day, and transcription stays on for the rest of that day. Transcription is not offered on YouTube.

Questions

How do I get the transcript of an Instagram Reel?

Open the Reel on instagram.com, press Alt+S, select it in the Sortflare panel and click Transcribe. The text appears in the panel and goes into your export.

Does TikTok have transcripts?

TikTok can show auto-generated captions over a video, but it does not give you the text as a transcript to copy or export. Sortflare does, for one video or many.
